Spiritual Warfare

I had a dream last night, or probably this morning, where it seemed like I was in a war video game. I was in a group of people preparing for the enemy army to come. I told everyone we should get in a circle with our backs to the inside of the circle so we could see all around us and not be taken by surprise. We made the circle and the opposing army came over the hill. As soon as my army saw the enemy, they scattered like flies and we were quickly defeated. I'm still trying to figure out the message God wants to show me through this dream but I know the Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 that we must be sober and vigilant because our adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

"Loving people is the highest level of spiritual warfare that we could ever do." Joyce Meyer
This makes me think, when you love somebody, you have their back...

Something interesting I found " A warrior's most vulnerable area is his back, and by putting their backs together, two warriors can eliminate this disadvantage and turn it into an advantage."

Prayers for our military

July 23

A dream woke me up this morning. I was in a room in the shadows. A man was spotlighted at the front of the room. He was in uniform and was slumped over a table. Then, a man appeared behind him (a prophet, maybe) and said "help him". Then, I saw lots of other people in the room with me and someone started clapping. Then, we all started clapping and cheering and the man in uniform started slowly getting up.

I woke up with tears in my eyes. I believe that man in uniform represents our military today and I believe God sent me that dream because our military needs our support! They are working for a government that seems to care little about them but truly they are working for us, me, you, our children, our children's children! Let's show them WE THE PEOPLE CARE!!!! I'll be the first to admit that I haven't prayed for them enough but I don't have to stay that way. I choose to commit myself to praying for and supporting our military! Will you join me?

UPDATED: Low Carbing

Several months ago, I started following Wheat Belly by Dr. Davis. I thought, at the time, that I only had to rid myself of wheat to follow the Wheat Belly lifestyle. I simply substituted potato flour and rice flour for my wheat flour so I could still have my biscuits and spaghetti, etc. The older followers let me know very quickly that all grains were considered poison and to be avoided at all costs. My response was literally "How is this country girl supposed to have her beans and cornbread without corn???" So, I gave up and gave in to my carb cravings without another thought. I have been a total carb junkie! Last Sunday night, I had spaghetti sandwiches (spaghetti on white bread) for supper!!! Talk about carb overload!

Well, in the meantime, I've been following Healthy Living How To by Vanessa Romero for a while and she promotes a low carb lifestyle for good health. Suddenly, last Tuesday, it finally struck me that this is the lifestyle I need! God's timing! I have been researching natural cures for PCOS, IBS, and fibromyalgia. Every thing I have read for all three show that a low carb diet is highly beneficial for relief of symptoms!  I immediately quit eating any grains, no bread, no cereal, no pasta, no corn, no potatoes, and no sugar or artificial sweeteners. I can eat all the eggs, meat, and vegetables I want and a little fruit. I have been drinking only water or coffee and tea sweetened with Stevia which is an all natural sweetener that does not affect glucose like artificial sweeteners do. I've read that an acceptable low carb diet plan is 50-150g a day but I have been working really hard to keep my carbs below even that at around 30g a day.

Who knew bacon and eggs was a better for you breakfast than cereal or oatmeal.... but it really is! The glucose spikes and crashes from all the carbs in the average American diet is what's making us unhealthy!!!! I've always heard people talk about my granddaddy lived on bacon and fresh lard and etc etc but if you'll think about it, they didn't have all the processed junk that we have today that is full of what.... starch and carbs!!!

Today is day 6 of my low carbing lifestyle and.... I feel fantastic!!!! I was going to weigh tomorrow at a week but I couldn't wait.... I've lost 4 pounds already! The last time I wore the pants I'm wearing today was a couple of months ago and they were a little bit uncomfortable but they fit perfectly today! So happy happy happy!!!!!

With my PCOS, I have been praying hard for another baby but I have learned that, even if I do get pregnant, I have a high risk of miscarriage at any time during the pregnancy which is certainly not something I want to have to deal with. My prayer is that, through this lifestyle, God will bless me with not only relief of my PCOS symptoms but also with a healthy pregnancy and birth!

Update: 3 weeks today and I've lost 9 pounds! I can't keep my wedding rings on my finger anymore so I wear them on a necklace! I feel so much better! I've been walking every day and even jogging and running just a little bit,,, can't wait to see what this next week brings!

The High Life CD Fundraiser

"Where God guides, God will provide"

I saw this on a church marquee yesterday and I thought how fitting and timely this statement is in our ministry right now. We have put alot of time and money into my husband's country gospel music in the last 4 years in an effort to reach people for the Lord. God has always blessed us with the ability to do what needed to be done. With this CD, however, we have really struggled to get things done. Some of the songs on this CD have actually been produced twice already and wound up not being what they needed to be. We were so excited when the Lord led us to Chapel Valley Studios where the Roarks assured us they could make these songs something worth listening to :) We also know that the CD would not have been the same without the two newest songs on it, The High Life and In the Stillness of the Night which we are co-writers on, along with Travis Bryan and Larry Houchin. Walking by faith, we know that God is up to something big with this CD and the enemy is trying hard to keep it from getting out there. All in God's time but He has let us know that He wants us to ask for financial help in finishing this project. We are now on the last leg of the process with $3000 left to pay. God has already provided $1500 through an obedient servant so we only need $1500 to finish up! Then, we will have product in hand and be ready to have our CD release party and start booking dates! Please pray and obey the Lord if He lays it on your heart to be a part of this exciting project!

To My Husband, My Friend, My Lover

I want to share with yall a poem that I wrote for my husband today. A little background first, though.... As a survivor of sexual abuse, it has been a long road! We have had many very bad days and even worse nights over our 15 years of marriage. I'm so thankful that I'm now at a place of strength and courage in my relationship with the Lord and my husband to be able to write something like this (and mean it ;)

To My Husband, My Friend, My Lover

You make my knees weak and my belly quiver
Every time you kiss me, up my spine goes a shiver
Your strong hands drive me wild
the way they rub and tease me in the night.

Take me now, my body screams
as it's awakened by the man of my dreams
As we ride the waves, we become one
the passion builds and love overcomes.

Hold me tight, don't let me go
Day and night, keep me close
As time goes by, our love increases
I never knew it could be like this

I thank God for giving you to me
You've helped me become who I want to be
Your wife, your friend, your lover
I am yours, always and forever ♥

My Journey to All Natural and Homemade

My journey to all natural and homemade has been a long time coming. I have researched and studied and even incorporated aspects of the all natural and homemade lifestyle off and on for about 7 years. My husband made fun of me when I first started so I pretty much quit for a while. I have recently, however, acquired a passion that I don't think I ever had before. I ran across a blog that I have not been able to get enough of that sparked this renewed interest in the all natural way of life. Check it out at One Good Thing By Jillee

My most recent journey began with using coconut oil as a personal lubricant. I found so many great uses for coconut oil that I started looking into other frugal and simple products that would be multi-functional in my health and beauty and cleaning regimen.

So, here's what I'm doing so far with some of these things being things I've done intermittently for years and some things that I've just started. When I first wake up in the morning, I start with oil pulling. I use one tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil. In the shower, I use all natural tea tree shampoo and conditioner. I don't use a towel in my hair anymore per tips and tricks from Curly Girl. Instead, I wrap my hair in what's called a "plop" with a long-sleeve t-shirt after applying aloe vera gel and homemade hair gel, recipe found here: homemade hair gel. Update: After several days of using my homemade hair gel, I have decided that it is the best thing that has ever happened to my hair! I love the way my curls look when I use this! And, I love that it has no chemicals!!! While my hair is wrapped, I "clean" my face with a mixture of coconut oil and olive oil. I didn't follow a recipe for that. I just poured some olive oil in my container and added coconut oil until it was a creamy, not so runny, texture. Then, I use witch hazel as toner. I brush my teeth with homemade toothpaste, recipe found here: homemade toothpaste. Update: I don't like this toothpaste recipe, looking for another one! Updated again: Ok, so I've tried 2 different toothpaste recipes and didn't like either one but I haven't been able to purchase essential oils yet. I think that will make a big difference. For now, I bought a tube of Tom's of Maine and I really like it as far as taste and texture. I have noticed, however, that my tooth sensitivity is coming back :( For shaving, I am using aloe vera gel.

I hand wash my dishes with simply washing soda and vinegar which is also my go-to cleaner for ANYthing dirty. it's really great on dirty floors :) For my laundry, I use my homemade powdered laundry detergent, recipe found here: homemade powdered laundry detergent  (note: she said Wal-Mart doesn't carry washing soda but ours does now so maybe yours will, too ) To my load of whites, I add 1/2 cup of peroxide. To my colored clothes, I add 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of baking soda. I buy my baking soda at the local feed mill for 40 cents/lb. and I have recently learned, but have not yet tried, that you can change baking soda into washing soda from this website: homemade washing soda.

On November 4, 2012, our family committed to trying to eat God's way after reading a book called The Bible Cure by Dr. Reginald Cherry. The first thing we did was cut out all animal/fish/bird foods that He prohibited in the Old Testament. We still consume too much sugar/processed foods but we are definitely making progress and working on making better food choices. I stopped using sugar in my coffee a long time ago and started using honey and Coffee-Mate. I now try to only use local honey and have cut out the Coffee-Mate and started using low fat milk instead as Coffee-Mate is one of those over-processed food products and has too many ingredients that I can't pronounce :)

For nutritional supplements, in the mornings I take 1 potassium, 1 Vitamin D-3, 1 Maca Root capsule, and 1 multi-vitamin. I also drink an apple cider vinegar tonic made with 2 tablespoon acv, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon organic blackstrap molasses, and 1/4 c water. In the evenings, I drink a cup of spearmint tea with 1 teaspoon molasses and 1 teaspoon honey. I also take another potassium capsule and another Maca root capsule as well as drinking a dose of magnesium supplement. I also sprinkle my food with flaxseed meal. Most of the nutritional supplements I use are geared toward alleviating PCOS symptoms and constipation, both of which I have struggled with for years and am seeing much improvement in. I have also lost 5 pounds in the last month :)

Tis The Season.....

.... for giving!

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38

My ministry has partnered with Resources For Moms in Logan County and Hope Always director, Jennifer Elamon, to help four needy families for Christmas this year. Our goal is to raise $100 each person as well as provide a food basket for each of these families and two other families.

If you wish to donate through the secure Paypal online payment website, click the donate button below. If you would prefer to send a donation by check, please make the check payable to Elizabeth Thomas and put Christmas fundraiser on the memo line. Mail the check to 8689 Coopertown Rd Russellville, KY 42276.

For the food baskets, we would like to provide each of the six families with a ham, canned goods, dry goods, potatoes, and fruit.

May the storehouse of God's blessings be poured out upon you as you give from the abundance He has already blessed you with!
